Diabetes is when the pancreas secrets little or no insulin. Once there is little or no insulin, the breakdown of glucose in your system becomes very difficult and glucose moves into the blood causing blood sugar levels to increase as explains by Aliah.

She furthers that, " several patients have been rejected by their families because they are diabetic. Myths about the disease exist especially among children where some have been rejected by their families and referred to as witches".

She said Just like any other disease, it has its complications.

"cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, blindness and rectal dysfunction are some of the complications. If diabetes is well controlled, all these complications would not exist. Once an individual knows the heart is affected as a result of diabetes, it becomes a problem and can affect their mental health, and anxiety steps in causing the majority give up".

Diabetes is a disease that should be handled with caution and care. It has also been described as a silent killer and is responsible for many deaths around the world reason why preventive measures against the disease should not never be taken lightly.
