The nutritionist said early initiation is the best practice as far as breastfeeding is concerned,
" This means initiating breastfeeding within an hour after putting to birth. This should be followed by exclusive breastfeeding, a process to last for six months followed by complementary feeding. This means giving babies other liquid or semi liquid food alongside breast milk when they are six months old, " she said.
She further stated that the last best practice is giving the child breast milk for two years and even more.
Any other practice away from the above mentioned practices Berenice warned, will be detrimental to the baby exposing him or her to infections, something they can avoid if their children have enough breast milk in their bodies.
